Yard sign printing questions

How much do custom yard signs cost?
Custom yard signs start at $39 and the per-unit price drops sharply with volume. Most orders are for several signs, and the difference between one and ten is usually large enough to change how many you buy.
What are they made of?
Corrugated plastic, the standard material for outdoor temporary signage. It will not warp, rot or soak through the way board does, and it stays rigid in wind.
Do stakes come with the sign?
Stakes are ordered separately. Tell us in the notes how many you need and we will include them with your order.
Should I choose single or double sided?
Double sided for corner lots, medians and any road where traffic passes both ways, since a single-sided sign is invisible from one direction. Single sided is fine against a wall or fence. The reverse of a double-sided sign can carry a different message at no extra cost.
How long will they last outside?
Months of normal outdoor exposure. The material is weatherproof and UV resistant. Full sun and coastal salt air are the hardest conditions and will shorten that.
How much text should I put on it?
Less than you think. Six words or fewer on the headline, with the phone number as the second largest element. A driver has roughly two seconds. Our Print Concierge will tell you if a design is too busy before we print it.
What file format should I send?
Vector is best: AI, EPS or PDF with fonts outlined, with 0.125 inch bleed. We also accept high-resolution raster at 300 DPI at full size. A Print Concierge checks legibility at distance before printing.
Where do you ship yard signs?
Anywhere in the United States. We print in Florida and ship nationwide, free on orders over $120.

01

Printed by people, not machines

Yard signs are read by people driving past at thirty miles an hour, which almost nobody designs for. A dedicated Print Concierge checks your artwork for exactly that: whether the headline can be taken in at a glance, whether the phone number is large enough to be read from a moving car, and whether the contrast survives bright sun. Most files we receive have too many words and type that is too small. We tell you before printing a hundred of them, not after.

02

Choosing your size

Size is a decision about how fast the reader is moving.

  • 12 x 18: pavement level, for foot traffic and residential streets. Directional arrows, open-house pointers, yard-of-the-month.
  • 18 x 24: the standard yard sign and the one most people mean. Real estate, contractors, campaigns.
  • 18 x 30 and 24 x 24: more presence on a busier road without moving into a full sign build.
  • 24 x 36 and 48 x 48: main roads and construction sites, where you need to be read across several lanes.

Check your local rules before ordering the largest sizes. Many municipalities cap temporary sign dimensions, and campaign signage often has its own separate limits.

03

Single or double sided

Double sided costs more per sign and is worth it more often than people expect. A sign at the edge of a road is only read by traffic coming from one direction if it is printed on one side, which halves your audience on any through road. Single sided makes sense against a wall or fence, or where traffic only approaches from one way. Double sided is the right call for corner lots, medians, and anywhere cars pass in both directions. On a double-sided sign the reverse can carry the same design or a different message entirely at no extra cost.

04

Getting your artwork print-ready

Send vector artwork where you can, an AI, EPS or PDF with fonts outlined, with 0.125 inch bleed on every edge.

  • Six words or fewer on the headline. A driver has about two seconds.
  • Phone number second largest after the headline, and never in a script.
  • Maximum contrast. Dark on light or light on dark, never mid-tone on mid-tone.
  • Keep everything at least 1 inch inside the trim, and clear of the bottom two inches where a stake may sit.
05

Need a yard sign designed?

Choose Design it for me and our professional design team will build your yard sign for $75, laid out for readability at driving distance, and hand back a print-ready file you own outright. If you need something permanent rather than seasonal, ask about signage, which covers dimensional and illuminated options.

06

Printing and delivery

Our press runs seven days a week and we ship nationwide from Florida. Order by 3PM ET and production starts the same day, with the arrival estimate at the top of this page updating live as you configure. Yard signs ship flat and stack efficiently, so larger runs cost very little more to deliver. Shipping is free over $120, which most multi-sign orders clear easily.
